A data cab error is caused by either a bad DJ CD or a bad CD-ROM.
Verify the size of the Data1.cab file on the DJ CD
- Put the Dear Jane CD in the drive, cancel out of the installation when it starts.
- Double-click on My Computer.
- Right-click on the CD drive and choose Open. It will be called Dear Jane followed by (D:) where D is the letter of your CD drive.
- Click on View > Details (top menu).
- You should have a file called Data1.cab here with a size of 384,057 KB. If you do, then your CD is fine.
If your Data1.cab is a different size than 384,057 KB, there is a problem with your DJ CD or your computer's CD-ROM. If there is enough free space on the computer's hard drive, 955MB (380MB + 575MB for the program), you can try copying the DJ install files to your computer and running the DJ installation from your hard drive.
Installing DJ from your computer's hard drive
- On your desktop, double-click My Computer.
- Double-click the drive on which you want to create a new folder.
- On the File menu, point to New, and then click Folder.
- Type a name for the new folder. For example, type DJInstall, and then press ENTER.
- Insert the Dear Jane CD-ROM into your CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive. Hold down SHIFT as you insert the CD-ROM, to prevent it from starting automatically.
- In My Computer, right-click the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive, and then click Explore.
- Hold down the Ctrl key and click on the following files: Setup.exe, Setup.bmp, Dear Jane.msi, and Data1.cab.
- On the Edit menu, click Copy.
- Right-click the folder that you created in step 3, and then click Paste.
- When all the files have been copied to your hard disk, quit all other programs that may be running, and then double-click Setup.exe (in the folder that you created in step 3) to start the Dear Jane installation.
- Follow the instructions on the screen.
- Once the installation has completed, you can delete the folder that you created in step 3 above where you copied Setup.exe, Setup.bmp, Dear Jane.msi, and Data1.cab.
