Sending an EQ Project from Computer A to Computer B

EQ must be installed on your computer in order to open an EQ project file. Also, your version of EQ must be the same version (or newer) as the version used to create the project file. For example, if your friend sends you an EQ7 file, and you only have EQ8 installed, you can open her EQ7 file. Conversely, if you send your friend an EQ8 project file, she will not be able to open it in EQ7.

Via email

You can attach an EQ project to an email you send from Computer A, then that project can be opened from Computer B and re-saved in EQ. This is how you would move an EQ project from one of your computers to another. This is also how you would share a project file with a friend who also owned EQ.

Send the project

  1. Open your email program on computer A, and address an email to yourself, or whoever you want to send the project to.
  2. Do what your email program requires to attach a file, such as click Insert, or the Paper Clip.
  3. When asked to browse to find the file, find it here:
    1. For EQ8 Projects: (My) Documents (or Home on a Mac) > My EQ8 folder > Projects folder
    2. For EQ7 Projects: (My) Documents > My EQ7 folder > PJ7 folder.
  4. Click on the project file you want to email.
  5. Click Open or Attach and send the email.

Open the project and re-save it

  1. Open the email program on Computer B, or instruct the friend to open her email.
  2. Double-click the attached project file. It will open in EQ.
  3. Close the Sketchbook in EQ.
  4. Click FILE > Save as > in the “Save in:” box at top, navigate to your My EQ8 (or My EQ7) folder on your computer. Select the Projects (or PJ7) folder.
  5. Type a name for the project > then click Save. The project from Computer A will now be saved in EQ on Computer B.

Via USB or CD

Alternatively, you can save any project onto a thumb drive or blank CD from Computer A, then open that project from the thumb drive or CD drive of Computer B, then re-save it in EQ on Computer B.

On Computer A

  1. Open the project in EQ on Computer A > close the Sketchbook.
  2. Put a USB stick or formatted CD in your drive.
  3. In EQ click FILE > Save as > in the “Save in:” window navigate to the USB or CD (DVD) drive.
  4. Click Save. The project will now be saved on the USB or CD.

On Computer B

  1. Put the USB stick or CD you copied the Project onto into your computer.
  2. In EQ click FILE > Open > Open a project not listed above > navigate to the drive that you inserted the USB stick or CD into.
  3. Click on the project name > click Open. The project will now be in EQ.
  4. Close the Sketchbook.
  5. Click FILE > Save as > in the “Save in:” box at top, navigate to your My EQ8 (or My EQ7) folder on your computer. Select the Projects (or PJ7) folder.
  6. Type a name for the project > then click Save. The project from Computer A will now be saved in EQ on Computer B.

Note:
Below are the file extensions and locations of projects made in previous EQ versions if you used the recommended installation of these programs.
