“Failed to create empty document” error message indicates an incomplete installation of EQ7

If you are on Windows 8 or Windows 10

Restart the computer, using Restart (not by turning your computer off, then on).

If you are on Windows 7, Vista or XP, uninstall and reinstall

Uninstalling EQ7

  1. Click START > All Programs > Electric Quilt > EQ7 > EQ7 Deactivate this Computer.
  2. Click START > Control Panel.
  3. Uninstall EQ7. (Your projects will not be affected.)
    • If you are using Windows 7 or Windows Vista.
      1. If you are viewing Control Panel in Category View, under Programs select Uninstall a program.
      2. Select EQ7 from the list of programs installed.
      3. Click Uninstall.
    • If you are using Windows XP.
      1. Click Add/Remove Programs.
      2. Select EQ7 from the list of programs installed.
      3. Click Change/Remove.
  4. Restart your computer.

Reinstalling EQ7

  1. Be sure to log on to the computer as the user that will be using EQ7.
  2. Empty the Temp folder by going to START > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk CleanUp.
  3. Choose C drive.
  4. Check only Temporary Files.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Disable all anti-virus software and system utility programs, including all their services. (Right-click all the mini-icons near your clock and turn them off or exit out of as many as possible.)
  7. Insert the EQ7 into your CD/DVD ROM drive.
  8. When the Autoplay options appear, select Install this application.
  9. Follow the prompts on the screen and complete the EQ7 installation.
    • If you do not use the suggested installation paths make sure you put EQ7 in a folder, but not the same folder as EQ6 or EQ5. This is important, as installing EQ7 on top of EQ5 or EQ6 will cause a bad install.
