If nothing happens when you are trying to open EQ7 for the Mac, it is usually an indication of improper user permissions to set up EQ7 for the first time. The easiest solution is to change your account type on your Mac from Standard User to Administrator.

Elevate a Standard User to an Administrator in OS X

  1. Choose Apple menu > System Preferences.
  2. Click Users & Groups.
  3. Click the lock icon to unlock it, and then type an administrator name and password.
  4. Select a standard or managed account in the account list, and then select “Allow user to administer this computer.”
  5. Close System Preferences.
  6. Try opening Electric Quilt.app again.

If that doesn’t work, your user account may be corrupted. This is commonly caused by the account migration assistant while upgrading to a new version of OS X. Creating a new administrator account is best in corrupted account situations.

Create a New Administrator User in OS X

  1. Choose Apple menu > System Preferences.
  2. Click Users & Groups.
  3. Click the lock icon to unlock it, and type an administrator name and password.
  4. Click Add (+) below the list of users.
  5. Choose “Administrator” for the type of user from the “New Account” pop-up menu.
  6. Enter a full name for the user.
An account name is generated automatically. If you want to use a different account name, enter it now. After adding a user, you can’t change the account name.
The account name is used to name the user’s home folder, and it can be used instead of the full name for logging in.
Enter a password for the user in the Password and Verify fields, and then enter a hint to help the user remember the password.
  7. Click Create User.
  8. Try installing and opening Electric Quilt.app from this new user account.
